Dr. Dietrich von Strom - Steampunk original character
Why I chose to make this costume
Dr. von Strom is my second steampunk-y original character. I wanted to do a "mad scientist" kind of character and once I had decided that electricty was the subject of his research the rest fell into place.
How I made this costume
The largest and most obvious aspect of this costume is the doctor's "lightning rod". This was an original design cobbled together with PVC, foam, a little 3D-printing, and many other random greebles. I had originally envisioned a much more intersting set-up for the lighting, involving several Adafruit Gemmas, but I ended up not having a suitable power source and had to scale back. It does have sound though! I also patterned and sewed the 'insulating vest' myself.
